Organisers of the 2026 General Muhoozi Kainerugaba Birthday Run have announced that participation kits are now available, as preparations intensify for a mass turnout expected at Kololo Independence Grounds on April 26.

The Director of Mobilisation for the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Micheal Mawanda, has announced that kits for the 2026 General Muhoozi Kainerugaba Birthday Run are now available at the PLU Secretariat headquarters in Kampala.

“We encourage all supporters and participants to turn up in large numbers and begin collecting their kits as soon as possible to secure participation in this landmark event,” Mawanda said.

More than 50,000 participants are expected to gather at Kololo Independence Grounds on April 26 for the 52nd edition of the run, organised in honour of Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The annual event, organised by the Patriots Club and the Patriotic League of Uganda, will be held under the theme “Run for Charity, Run for Hope,” with proceeds aimed at supporting vulnerable children in baby homes across the country.

Organisers say the event will be led by Gen Muhoozi himself as chief runner and is expected to attract ministers, Members of Parliament, foreign dignitaries, and supporters from across Uganda.

The run has in recent years evolved into a large-scale mobilisation and fitness event, drawing thousands of participants and being presented by organisers as a platform for promoting patriotism, health, and social responsibility.

In a recent briefing, the Acting Director of Defence Public Information, Col Chris Magezi, described the run as a unifying initiative that continues to engage large numbers of young people.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said security and traffic management measures have been put in place to ensure smooth movement of participants to Kololo.

“We are fully prepared. A detailed traffic management plan will be shared in advance, and officers will be on the ground to guide motorists and pedestrians,” he said.

Over the years, the birthday run has become one of Uganda’s most visible public events, often featuring mass participation and high-profile attendance from government officials and security leaders.

Last year’s edition focused on environmental conservation under the “Greening Uganda” campaign, with participants engaging in tree planting and climate awareness activities.

Organisers say the event continues to combine fitness, charity, and civic mobilisation, while strengthening youth engagement under PLU-led initiatives.
